How Can I deal with Google Local & Google Places Inaccuracies?
We have a client, a franchisee of a national chain.
He used to be on one street in Brooklyn, then moved. His ex-partner bought his old shop, and then manipulated Google Places to say that this first shop, was still associated with the chain. Which it ain’t.
So the ex-partner was getting the benefit of a national chain’s media buy – including Yankee Radio spots, TV Spots, and more.
Google’s places system really allows no recourse – you can get listed there, but to get un-listed, if you don’t want to, is largely impossible.
We did solve the problem, but it’s a real flaw with Google’s Places system – and it’s rooted in the fact that Google’s Biz Dev team has signed these partnerships with paces like Reach Local, Yelp, and Yodle. Google gets better distribution into smaller business, and fills up their databases with info from these partnerships. It’s a tangled web.
